The Watermark Awards for excellence in Kitchen Design happened last month. Sponsored by Builder and Custom Home Magazines they are continuously raising the bar in Kitchen Design. Here are a few of my favorites. You can see more at www.Buileronline.org.
Sam’s Creek in Bridgehampton, NK unanimously was voted Project of the Year. This very functional contemporary kitchen was innovative in its use of materials and design layout. The mahogany paneling opens up the entire space as it continues outside.
The Westlake Kitchen in Austin, Texas won a Merit Award for its stylish design. This casual kitchen has an easy open plan. Warm rustic beams and flooring mixed with stainless steel create an inviting space. Note the copper hood and the commercial style pendants.
The Piper House is in Darien, Connecticut. This might be my favorite. Can you believe this is a production home? It looks like a scullery in an English Manor House; like Downton Abbey. The Carrara marble counter tops mixed with the grey cabinets and dark window frames are timeless.
247 Braggs & Bragg2
The 247 Bragg Kitchen is my other favorite. It’s actually a remodel impressing the judges enough to win a Grand Award. A modern kitchen set into a 1920’s warehouse. There is an enormous functional island that separates the space; provides seating and prep area. The original stamped metal ceiling was removed, repaired and rehung. This is the best of both worlds.
